On July 24, 2023, the Board of Education voted to declare the house at East Elementary School as surplus property and offer it to the County Commissioners pursuant to N.C. Gen. Stat. § 115C-518(a). On Tuesday, February 6, 2024 the Commissioners voted that they did not want the house. The Operations Committee recommended that the Board vote to put the house at East Elementary up for sale.
