School Social Workers

School social workers are trained and certified at the bachelor's and master's levels through accredited social work programs. School social workers are the link between home, school, and community. As members of the educational team comprised of teachers, administrators, student services staff, and parents, school social workers promote and support students' academic and social success by providing specialized services that include:

Individual, family, and group counseling
Home visits
Collaboration with other student services professional and school staff
Collaboration with community agencies and organizations to meet basic needs
Advocacy for students, parents, and the school system
Support groups for students and parents
Crisis prevention and intervention
Social-developmental assessments
Parent education and training
Case management
Information and referral
Staff development
Policy development such as discipline and attendance policies
