United Way of Cleveland County recently announced their 2020 Spirit of North Carolina Awards for Campaign Growth. Amongst those who were recognized, Grover Elementary and Township #3 Elementary Schools were honored for their outstanding service to the community during the year 2020.

The Spirit of North Carolina Award for Campaign Growth specifically recognizes organizations who have demonstrated a continued commitment to fundraising, volunteering, and educating others in regards to community engagement. On March 3rd, 78 organizations were recognized for their work with 19 local United Ways. The City of Shelby and Shelby Dental Care Center were recognized alongside the two elementary schools as recipients of this honor for Cleveland County.

“We commend The City of Shelby, Shelby Dental Care Center, Grover Elementary and Township #3 Elementary for their ability to have successful campaigns in light of COVID-19 and demonstrate their commitment to our United Way and to our community,” said Leslie Cobb, President & CEO of United Way of Cleveland County.  “We are honored to have these organizations as key stakeholders that help make Cleveland County a better place to live, learn, work, and play.”

In addition to these awards, Cleveland County Schools system was recognized as the #1 organization in per-capita giving out of all 2,200 United Ways. Understanding the importance of community involvement, this is a great honor for the CCS district. It shows dedication from the staff and employees to giving back to the community.

“We are so blessed to have Cleveland County Schools part of our community and our United Way,” says Cobb. “CCS always goes the extra mile to help people in need.”
