The Cleveland County Board of Education approved Wendy Fitch as executive director for the Exceptional Children's Department at the May 11 business meeting.

"I am humbled and grateful to be selected as the next Executive Director of Exceptional Children for Cleveland County Schools," said Fitch.

Fitch has accrued over 25 years of service with Cleveland County Schools as a school psychologist, lead psychologist, and autism support framework coordinator.

"Under the direction of Dr. Nellie Aspel, our EC department has grown to become widely recognized as exemplary across the state," added Fitch. "We have a great school system, and I am proud to be a part of Team CCS working under the leadership of Dr. Fisher."

Fitch graduated from Appalachian State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology.  She also earned a master's degree and Certificate of Advanced Study from Appalachian State University and is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst.

She has been married to Brian Fitch for 28 years and has two daughters, Morgan and Madeline.
