Andrew Washburn, band director at Kings Mountain High School was recently accepted into the American School Band Directors’ Association (ASBDA), a prestigious honors organization for band directors with an emphasis on concert band.

Founded in 1953, the ASBDA possesses archives of materials from band directors over the years that can be used by all members for new classroom ideas. With strong beliefs in the strength of collective expertise, the ASBDA dedicates their effort toward research and collaboration.

To become a member of the ASBDA, a band director must be nominated by someone who is already a member of the organization. Chris Cole, a previous band director at Kings Mountain High School, extended the nomination to Washburn.

“With ASBDA, you have a wealth of expertise from all over the country,” said Washburn. “It really is a great resource for band directors.”

Once school resumes, Washburn will leverage his ASBDA membership to work alongside other band directors to deliver the best possible learning experience for his students.
