Susan Fogleman, Music Specialist at Fallston Elementary School has been selected to be a participant in the Adopt-A-School Program, a new program that is organized through the North Carolina Symphony.

This new program was created to form connections between professional musicians and K-12 students and teachers across the state. Each music teacher that is selected will be assigned a musician to work with. They can then coordinate musical discussions, instrument demonstrations, and virtual classroom visits for students to have the opportunity for real-time advice from experienced professionals.

Fogleman was thrilled to be chosen to take part in this program and recognizes how valuable this opportunity can be for her students.

“This will be extremely valuable for my fifth graders as they prepare to make decisions about possibly choosing to play an instrument next year in middle school band or orchestra classes,” said Fogleman. “I am grateful for the opportunity for my students and know that it will be an incredible experience which will enhance their overall education.”

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, this program is super important as live performances are not a feasible option for most music instructors. It provides a new incentive and excitement for the children to continue their musical learning and success.

“Being selected to participate in this program is an honor for both Mrs. Fogleman and Cleveland County Schools,” said Tamara Goforth, Executive Director of Elementary Education at Cleveland County Schools. “I am excited that her students will be given this invaluable opportunity!”
