As the 2021-2022 school year came to a close, the best educators from each school entered into a rigorous selection process in hopes of becoming Cleveland County’s next Teacher, Teacher Assistant, and Principal of the Year.

This year’s candidates made it extremely difficult for the adjudicators,” said Greg Shull, director of communications for Cleveland County Schools. “They far exceeded expectations, and I am certain and made the decision quite difficult for the adjudicators.”

A panel of education enthusiasts determined this year’s finalists as follows.

Finalists for the 2022 Teacher of the Year are Cailyn Van Buren and Kimberly Proctor of Washington Elementary, and Stephen (Alex) Rowe of Kings Mountain High.

Teacher assistant finalists are Angelica Round of Union Elementary, Pamela Ruppe of Township Three Elementary, and Elizabeth Sherrill of East Elementary.

Jennifer Blanton of Jefferson Elementary, Dr. Dustin Bridges of Township Three Elementary, and Dr. Kim Greene of Fallston Elementary were nominated by their fellow principals as finalists for top honors.

Teachers and teacher assistants of the year from all schools and the finalists for principal of the year will be honored at the Venue at Turkey Ridge on September 20. The 2022-2023 CCS Teacher, Teacher Assistant, and Principal of the Year will also be named at the event.

“I absolutely cannot wait for the revealing of this year’s winners,” added Shull. “The Venue at Turkey Ridge provides a breathtaking venue for this momentous occasion as we announce the best of the best educators of Cleveland County”
