Understanding how Financial Aid works!

Before you dive into filling out the FAFSA, make sure you’ve checked off these important steps:

• Set up your CFNC account

• Complete the NC Residency Determination Service (RDS)

• Create your FSA ID

Gather the Required Information:

• Social Security numbers for your parents (if applicable and you're a dependent student)

• Federal tax return documents

• Details about any child support received

• Current totals in your cash, savings, and checking accounts

• The net value of any investments, businesses, or farms you or your family own

 

FAFSA DEADLINES

Make sure to keep track of these important dates to increase your chances of receiving financial aid.

• For UNC System Institutions, the priority deadline is June 1, 2025.
• For Community Colleges, the priority deadline is August 15, 2025. Aid is awarded until available funds run out.
• For all other types of aid, contact the financial aid office at the college or career school you plan to attend for specific information.
