Emily Parker and SonThe 2020 Wells Fargo Teacher of the Year for Cleveland County is Emily Parker of Union Elementary.  Initially nominated by her peers, Parker is known for being innovative, creative, and for bringing learning to life.

"My heart is bursting with joy and I am truly honored to represent Cleveland County Schools as Teacher of the Year," said Parker. "I am so grateful for the many people that have encouraged, supported, and pushed me to be the best educator I can be for my students."

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, only three finalists were selected to undergo an online interview process with a panel of community adjudicators. This year's finalists included Barbara McNeilly of Boiling Springs Elementary and Kimberly Boyles of Marion Elementary.

After a thorough interview, Parker emerged as the district winner and will now represent in the regional competition.

"The opportunity to represent CCS at the regional level is exhilarating," she explained. "I hope to use my leadership to influence positive change across the state!"

Parker will receive a monetary award from Wells Fargo as well as a glass apple handcrafted by N.C. artist Robert Levine. The Cleveland County YMCA “the Y” gifted her a year-long membership, and she will also have the opportunity to attend the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, courtesy of Laughlin Furniture Outlet and the CCS Educational Foundation.
