DESCRIPTION: This course is designed to provide students enrolled in the Exceptional Children’s program with the opportunity to develop and enhance job readiness skills. During this course students are provided with multiple opportunities through school-based vocational training (e.g. vocational/transition assessment, school-based enterprise, classroom speakers, job seeking strategies, on-campus job placements, community service projects and individualized career planning) and work-based vocational training activities (e.g. shadowing, internships, part-time paid employment, interagency transition planning, on-campus leadership activities, apprenticeships, volunteer placements) to explore combination of direct and indirect instructional activities focusing on the development of both “hard” and “soft” skills relevant to the world of work. Activities within this course also focus on developing the self-determination skills needed to obtain and maintain a competitive employment position in the occupational area that best matches the student’s interests and abilities.
