SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

The junior and senior years are a time of planning for the future.  Each year students inquire about scholarship opportunities available to them.  There are a number of resources you may use in your search for funds. The financial aid office of the college/university you plan to attend is a primary source. Always contact that office and inquire about any scholarships for which you can apply.  Some colleges notify Burns of opportunities, others do not – be sure to call the college.  Private sources, such as employers, churches and civic organizations are another possibility.  Donors often notify the guidance department of scholarships and ask that we distribute applications.  Announcements will be made as these arrive in the guidance office.  Seniors should be particularly alert to morning announcements each day, and keep a copy of the guidance office’s memo, “From the Counselor’s Desk” with them to remind them of deadlines. Also the scholarship information is located on the Burns High School website. Students are responsible for signing up and returning applications to the guidance office.  You must be punctual with applications.  Donors do not accept late applications.  Do not procrastinate.
