It all started when Shelby Middle School students Hannah Coalson, Emily Alvino, Nicole Koveleski, Haylee Anderson, and Linh Nguyen read a Shelby Star article about the E-Coli outbreak in Cleveland County.  They were saddened by the news of the innocent children who were affected by this devastating outbreak, especially a toddler by the name of Lily Rhoads.  They felt compelled to do something for these victims and bring some joy to them during this holiday season.  After researching some ideas, the girls approached the Shelby Middle School principal, Tim Quattlebaum, about having a Hat Day to raise funds to help offset the medical bills for Lily.  On December 14th, the girls assisted the staff at SMS in hosting hat day, which raised $275.00 for the family.  On December 20th, the Rhoads family came to Shelby Middle to meet the students and accept the check on behalf of Lily.  Hopefully the funds will help Lily and her family worry a bit less over the holidays.  We wish her well on her speedy recovery.
