The SHS Renaissance Club was formed in 2007 to recognize and celebrate academic success at Shelby High. It is an incentive club that rewards students each semester for their good academic standing. Unlike the Beta Club and the National Honor Society, this club uses an un-weighted GPA to determine eligibility. Students earn their way into the club and must maintain their GPA’s in order to remain members. The club is divided into three levels: gold, black, and white. Students who qualify receive a card which entitles them to discounts at local businesses and privileges at school. Students who earn a 4.0 GPA are gold card members. GPA’s of 3.5-3.9 qualify students for a black card, and white card holders have GPA’s of 2.5-3.4. The number of benefits increases for each level, with gold being the highest. The first Renaissance Club celebration occurred on Friday, October 19. All eligible students were assembled in the gym to receive their cards, a tee-shirt, and a bag of goodies donated by local businesses. They were entertained by student and faculty bands and vocalists. |
