2011 - 2012 Shelby High School Teacher and Teach Assistant of the Year

Jeff Jones

Teacher of the Year Jeff Jones: I am a product of the Cleveland County school system. I earned my BA In Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I earned my MA in History from Appalachian State University. I have taught for 27 years at Shelby High School. I currently teach Advanced Placement United States History and Current Affairs and Issues. I am chair of the Social Studies Department and the School Improvement Team. I was a member of the coaching staff at SHS for 23 years, and worked with the football, golf, and softball teams during that time. I live in Shelby with my wife, Susan. Shelby High is a special place and I am proud to be a Golden Lion.

Teacher Assistant of the Year Lydia Steele: I worked for Kemet Electronics as a Training Instructor for eighteen years before coming into the school system. I've been a TA for eleven years. I have two sons and five grandchildren. I have been married to William Steele for four years. Most of my years working in the school system have been in the EC department, which I love. It is just a joy knowing you can help mold a student's life.
