Class Requirements: All students are expected to complete the following:
- all homework
- daily notes/assignments
- projects
Sixth grade language arts include the study of reading comprehension, writing, vocabulary, and grammar. Literature textbooks will be assigned to every student. Grammar textbooks will NOT be assigned; however, if a student feels the need to check out one, they will be available. We will have literature and grammar tests after we complete selections and skills. There will be no specific scheduled day for these tests.
As we teach spelling this year, we will also focus on STEMS, part of a word that gives extra meaning. Our spelling pre-tests will be on Mondays with the final test for spelling and STEMS each Friday.
Throughout the year, we will emphasize reading comprehension and strategies in preparation for the state testing. The regular EOG testing will take place May 25-27. Please try not to make any appointments for your child on these days.
Homework: Homework will be assigned frequently. Everyone begins with a 100 for homework. If homework is not completed, five points will be deducted from the 100. If homework is partially completed, three points will be deducted. The number remaining at the end of each three weeks will be a final homework grade. So, you will end up with three homework grades for each nine weeks. Homework will be on the Homework Hotline daily-- (704) 487-0387 code 6300.
Grading Matters:
- Literature Selections, Novel Studies, EOG Preparation 40%
- Grammar/Writing Assignments 25%
