Welcome to Crest Middle School and the 6th Grade!

    I am very excited to be able to work with your child in the areas of writing, reading, spelling, and grammar this 2009-2010 school year!  Needless to say, we will be extremely busy in room 101!  Please feel free to call and schedule a conference or e-mail me if you have questions regarding your student's grades or behavior in my Language Arts class.

Important Dates:

EOG Testing - May 25 - Reading May 26 - Math May 27 - Math I am currently out on maternity leave. Mrs. Judy Davenport began working with the students on May10th. She is currently reading the novel Freak the Mighty with the students and continuing the EOG review that I began at the end of April.  

Homework Assignments:

Please continue your AR reading. The AR cut-off is May 28th! Block 1 should earn 20 points and Block 2 & 3 should earn 5 points in order to participate in the Beach Blast on June 4th! Remember, your final AR average and points earned can make the difference in an "A" and a "B" on your final report card grade!

Tips for Parents:

• Need book suggestions?  - Go to www.bookadventure.org
• Ask to see your child's planner each day.  This planner serves as a wonderful communication tool!
• Ask to see graded assignments on a daily basis.  I add three points to any signed test, quiz, etc.
• Check our school's website frequently.  School sports schedules, homework, AR booklists, etc. can be found here!
• Remind your child to study his/her stems and spelling words each and every night.  A new list will be given every Monday beginning the second week of school.  A spelling and stem meaning quiz will follow each Friday.
• Make sure your child is reading AT LEAST 20 minutes nightly!  I will monitor at home reading by using the Accelerated Reader Program.  The point goals will always be posted on my teacher web page.
• Help keep your child's Language Arts binder organized and clean.
• Call or e-mail at any time!
