History and Location
Crest Middle School opened in the fall of 1976 as Crest Junior High School with grades seven, eight, and nine. In the 1990-1991 school year, the school converted to a middle school organization with grades six, seven, and eight. Our elementary feeder schools are Township #3, Boiling Springs, and Springmore. Our present enrollment is 1004 students. There are approximately 74 certified staff members and 30 support staff including secretarial, custodial, cafeteria, and bus drivers. Our teacher organization follows the model middle school agenda of interdisciplinary teams. Each team has several teachers who teach all of the academic areas of math, science, social studies, and language arts. These team teachers are also supported by a group of "specialty" teachers responsible for teaching Health and PE, Art, Music, Foriegn Language, and Career/Technical Education. Although Crest Middle School is a large and very busy school, we focus on the care and success of our students as emerging adults. Our community support is very positive and our PTO contributes more than $25,000 annually to support our school programs.
Crest Middle School is located in the southwestern section of Cleveland County off Highway 74W near Shelby, North Carolina. We are approximately 1.5 hours from Asheville to the west and 1.5 hours from Charlotte to the east.
