
KINGS MOUNTAIN — The Burns Middle baseball team closed its season with a 3-2 win at county rival Kings Mountain on Monday.
Russ Branch took the complete-game victory on the mound for the Eagles (7-5, 5-5 Tri-County Conference East), striking out six and surrendering six hits.
Burns scored all of its runs in the fourth inning. Seth Mullinax led off the inning with a home run, and Will Angel and John Grigg followed with hits and eventually scored.
It was still 3-0 in the Eagles’ favor going to the seventh.
Kings Mountain’s Bryson Bailey and David Gamble scored on a two-run triple by Brian Lysek to cut it to 3-2 with one out in the bottom of the seventh. But Branch closed the contest by registering a strikeout and a groundout to shortstop.
Weston Shuford and Trevor Spurling had two hits apiece to pace Burns.
John Bell and Madisyn Bolin each had two hits for Kings Mountain (5-7, 3-7), which also finished its season as neither team reached the postseason.
