Groundbreaking Ceremony for new Shelby Middle set for Sunday, November 22 at 3 PM |
||
The Cleveland County Board of Education will conduct a ground-breaking ceremony for the new Shelby Middle School on Sunday, Nov. 22 at 3 p.m. The ceremony will be held on the school’s 58-acre site at the corner of Melrose and South DeKalb streets about a mile south of Shelby High School. The public is invited. The new school, scheduled to open in the fall of 2011 or early 2012 for seventh- and eighth-graders, will be a two-story facility of some 140,000 square feet designed to have Silver L.E.E.D. certification to recognize its site and environmental efficiency. It also will be designed as a “smart” facility using the latest technology to control many of its operations. Site work is to begin early next year. Once the new school opens, the current Shelby Middle school will be used as the district administrative offices and alternative programs. |
