Fourth-, fifth-graders compete in annual geography bowl

A fifth-grader from Township Three Elementary School took top honors in this year’s Geography Bowl held Tuesday, Feb. 22 at Springmore Elementary School.  Avery Pruitt placed first with Emily Bridges of Marion Intermediate and C.J. Warren of West Elementary finishing second and third respectively in the annual event sponsored by the Greater Cleveland County Schools’ Educational Foundation.

The 28 fourth- and fifth-graders participating qualified for the bowl by placing first or second at the National Geographic Society’s Geography Bees held at their schools in recent weeks.

Other participants were Michael Cerjan and Addison Stinnett of Bethware Elementary; Robert Evans and Aaron Triplett of Boiling Springs Elementary; Celeste McCauley and Westley Ledford of Casar Elementary; Dustin Burgess and Jacob Ingram of East Elementary; Ryanne Corder and Brandon Williams of Elizabeth Elementary; Michael Botts and Jordan Helms of Fallston Elementary; John Bridges and Taylor Craig of Grover Elementary; Zachary Huffstetler of Marion; Dakota Shelton and Wil Sellers of North Elementary; Matthew Westbrook and Jake Kennedy of Springmore; KaDeidra Baker of Township Three; Omar Smith and Caleigh Toppins of Union Elementary; Lance Bridges and Jalyn McNeal of Washington Elementary; and Landon Keeter of West Elementary.

The Geography Bowl is organized and presented by the Academically Intellectually Gifted Program of Cleveland County Schools and sponsored by Glenn Lumber Co. of Boiling Springs through the Educational Foundation.
