Cleveland County Schools will partner with Cleveland County CrimeStoppers to promote safe school environments. Students, faculty and staff with information that would aid in the investigation of criminal activity are being encouraged to call the CrimeStoppers number at 704.481-TIPS (8477). The Crime Stoppers line is available to anyone with information that would aid in the investigation of a crime or to apprehend a suspect. Anyone with information can call in and remain anonymous. A cash reward is available to students and others who contribute a tip that proves to be instrumental in leading to an arrest. Phil Weathers, director of Safe Schools, said publicizing the CrimeStoppers program teaches a proactive approach rather than a reactive one and does not indicate the existence of crime or drugs at a school. He said the district will promote CrimeStoppers by placing posters with the tip line number in schools. Shelby Middle will pilot the program and be the first to receive the signs and information. Mr. Weathers said the district will continue to operate the Cleveland County Safe Schools Anonymous Tip Line (877.231-3892) in other schools.
