Approximately 400 choral students participated in the Cleveland County Choral Clinic ending with a public concert in Malcolm Brown Auditorium Thursday evening.
Fifty students from each high school and middle school participated in the day long clinic Dr. Kenny Potter, a Kings Mountain High alumni and Director of Choral Activities and Music Education at Wingate University was the high school clinician. Bernadette Watts, the middle school clinician is the choral director at Alexander Central High School. Following a day of rehearsal, the middle school choir and the high school choir performed musical selections they have rehearsed in class for the past four to five weeks. The choral clinic provides and opportunity for students to be challenged both academically and vocally. Choral selections for the middle school included: "A Jubilant Song," "The Greatest Love," "Cantar," "We are the Dreamers," "Can You Hear?" and "Everlasting Melody." Selections performed by the high school choir were: "Sanctus III," "All Ye that Cried," "Sinnuh Man," "In Remberance," "Take Me to the Water," and "Kwaheri." Susan Canipe served as the accompanist for the middle school choir and Sharon Young accompanied the high school choir. Choral directors at each school are: Anne Goss, Burns High School; Ashley Smith, Burns Middle School; Cynthia Braswell, Crest High; Jennifer Cabaniss, Crest Middle; Shaye Smith, Kings Mountain High; Sharon Young, Kings Mountain Middle; Traci Aderholdt, Shelby High,; and Casey Vess, Shelby Middle. Accompanists are: Amy Jones, Burns; Susan Canipe, Crest; Leslie Brown, Kings Mountain; and Amy Allen, Shelby. |
