Brazilian educators tour Jefferson Elementary |

Students, teachers and faculty of Jefferson Elementary School hosted educators from Brazil and Burke County in a Wednesday afternoon visit. The three Brazilian educators – all principals of the year from their states in the South American country – toured classrooms and talked with teachers and students. Afterwards they sat down with Principal Paula Peeler and staff for a brief information exchange about schools, education systems and customs. The Brazilians are guests this week of Burke County Schools as part of an educational exchange of the U.S. Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) and the American Councils for International Education. The group is also visiting selected schools in surrounding counties and chose Jefferson Elementary because it was named last year as a No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School for helping students achieve at very high levels and for making significant progress in closing the achievement gap.
