Top seniors honor favorite teachers

Thirteen top academic seniors in Cleveland County Schools recognized their favorite teachers and educators at the 25th Annual Hoyt & Anne Dover Bailey Teaching Excellence Awards program on March 26th at the LeGrand Center.

The event featured top academic seniors from Burns, Crest, Cleveland Early College, Kings Mountain and Shelby high schools who honored their teachers who made a difference in their lives. Students offered formal "thank you" sentiments as their favorite teachers stood by their side in front of over 125 in attendance.

Hoyt Bailey sponsors this annual event through the Foundation.  Mr. Bailey is a former member of the Cleveland County Board of Education and a longtime member of the Foundation Board of Directors.  Mr. Bailey attended the event, receiving a standing ovation for his commitment to education.

Honored educators and the senior scholars who nominated them were as follows:

  • Dawn Blackburn, Shelby High School (Parker Campbell of SHS)
  • Richard Cabaniss, Crest High School (Taylor Mitchell of CHS)
  • John Champney, Shelby High School (Alyssa McNeary of SHS)
  • James Edwards, Shelby High School (Blanton Gillespie of SHS)
  • Kathy James, North Elementary School (Kyle Carroll of BHS)
  • Margaret Ledford, Grover Elementary School (Mackenzie Smith of KMHS)
  • Rachel Lowery, Kings Mountain Intermediate School (Sarah Scism of KMHS)
  • Jalisa Pettis, Cleveland Early College High School (Chris Goddard of CECHS)
  • Dan Potter, Kings Mountain High School (Tyler Batchler of KMHS)
  • Andy Roberts, Crest High School (Marian Knotts of CHS)
  • Brenda Wellmon, Crest High School (Taylor Coles of CHS)

 

 The event was recorded and will be aired on C19 beginning April 3rd.
