Over 700 students throughout North Carolina auditioned for this year’s NC Elementary Honors Chorus and 13 from CCS were chosen to participate in a best-of-the-best performance.

The students rehearsed for several weeks to prepare for the special concert in Winston-Salem, North Carolina at the NCMEA (North Carolina Music Educators Association) conference. The students arrived a day or so in advance of the concert to work with Rollo Dilworth, this year’s clinician, conductor, and composer, to prepare collectively.

The purpose of the concert is to provide students with the opportunity to develop their abilities to the greatest possible extent. Teachers who are members of NCMEA are permitted to send in auditions from six of their students. Adjudicators are hired to select the members of the Honors Chorus.

Songs performed include:
  • "Let Me Fly" arranged by Dr. Rollo Dillworth, commissioned for the 2015 chorus
  • "Wade in the Water" arranged by Dr. Dillworth - commissioned for the 2015 chorus
  • "Peace on Earth and Lots of Little Crickets" by Paul Carey
  • "The Star-Spangled Banner" by Francis Scott Key
  • "The Duel" by Cristi Miller
  • "In Dulci Jubilo" arranged by Henry Leck
