Superior Ratings at Music Performance Adjudication Events

Band, choral, and orchestra directors were recognized at the August 24th Cleveland County Board of Education meeting for achieving a rating of "Superior" at their respective music performance adjudications.  The directors took their top ensembles to the events near the end of last year to be critiqued by revered music professionals.

The following directors (pictured above with the school board) were recognized at the meeting and are listed along with their performing ensemble(s) and music grade levels.
  • John Champney, Shelby High School, Chamber Orchestra - Grade VI & Strathmore - Festival of Gold
  • Gil Doggett, Kings Mountain High School, Blazer Band – Grade VI
  • Sarah Fulton, Kings Mountain High School, Women’s Ensemble – Grade IV & Symphonic Chorale – Grade VI
  • Carol McSwain, Burns Middle School, 8th Grade String Orchestra – Grade II
  • Ashley Smith, Burns Middle School, Eighth-Grade Chorus and 7th-grade Male Ensemble – Grade IV
  • Peter Strickland, Crest High School, String Orchestra – Grade IV & Chamber Orchestra – Grade V 
  • Andrew Washburn, Kings Mountain High School, Concert Band -  Grade IV
  • Sherry Young, Kings Mountain Middle School, Seventh-Eighth Grades Mixed Chorus –Grade I
  • Jennifer Quinn, Shelby Middle School, 7th Grade Orchestra – Grade II & 8th Grade Orchestra – Grade III
