Cleveland County Schools Superintendent Dr. Stephen Fisher is the 2017 Superintendent of the Year for the Southwest Region, which includes 11 public school districts.

Fisher will compete with other regional winners for the - title of North Carolina Superintendent of the Year shortly following the start of the 2017-18 school year.

“We appreciate Dr. Fisher’s leadership and vision for excellence,” said Phillip Glover, chairman of the Cleveland County Board of Education. “We are proud of him for this accomplishment and appreciate his efforts in making Cleveland County Schools a great place to be for our students and staff.”

Glover announced Fisher’s selection as the Regional Superintendent of the Year at the May 22 school board meeting.

“We have an excellent school system in Cleveland County, and this honor represents the hard work and commitment our leadership team exhibits daily – for our schools and community,” said Fisher. “Great things are happening in our district, and I am proud to be part of such a special organization dedicated to serving our community.”

This is the second momentous recognition of its kind in recent months for Cleveland County Schools as Tony Fogleman was honored as the North Carolina CTE Administrator of the Year earlier this school year.
