School Board Approves Dr. Brian Hunnell as Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction

The Cleveland County Board of Education unanimously approved Dr. Brian Hunnell as the new assistant superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction at the Board of Education meeting on July 13th.

"I am excited about the opportunity to help Cleveland County Schools continue to progress towards becoming a top ten school district in North Carolina,” says Dr. Hunnell. "Teaching and learning are of the utmost importance, and I am committed to ensuring every student receives an exceptional educational experience.”

Dr. Hunnell previously served as the Director of Administrative Services and County Athletics Director. He succeeds the late Dr. William Dixon.

Dr. Hunnell has served Cleveland County in several capacities, beginning as a teacher at Burns Middle. He then moved into administration as an assistant principal at Washington Elementary. After six years as an assistant principal, he accepted a principalship at West Elementary where he led for five years. Dr. Hunnell transferred to Kings Mountain Middle as the principal for two years prior to moving into administrative services and athletics.

Dr. Hunnell graduated from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. He earned his master’s and doctoral degrees in School Administration from Gardner-Webb University.

He treasures his lovely wife, Jennenne and two wonderful children Aleya and Ian.
