Board of Education Member Recognized as Etta B. Leach Humanitarian of the Year

Donnie Thurman, Jr. of the Cleveland County Board of Education is the 2015 recipient of the Etta B. Leach Humanitarian of the Year award. This esteemed award is given annually by the Cleveland County Business Development Center to someone who has demonstrated a strong commitment to community service and relentlessly given back to others in helping better the communities of Cleveland County.

Mr. Thurman was honored at the 20th Annual Awards Dinner at the LeGrand Center among small business owners, students, and community members.

“I am humbled and surprised to receive this award,” said Thurman. “It is a huge honor that challenges me to go forward and try to carry on the work of Mrs. Leach.”

The award is given annually to someone who tirelessly works to improve the community, aligning with the spiritual and caring nature of Etta B. Leach.

Thurman added, “It pushes me – to want to be better – and be a positive example in the community.”
