posted Jun 12, 2015, 7:16 AM by Greg Shull   [ updated Jun 12, 2015, 7:19 AM ]

In May 2014, The North Carolina Commission for Public Health approved new and revised immunization requirements, which will become effective July 1, 2015.  The Cleveland County Health Department is working to help ensure that parents, schools, daycares and healthcare providers are aware of these revisions and new requirements, as they impact children’s ability to be admitted into daycare and school.

A summary of the new immunization requirements for children in the 2015-16 school year follows:

Children younger than 5 years of age:
  • Pneumococcal vaccine – 4 doses will be required

For Kindergartners in 2015-2016:
  • Varicella (Chickenpox) vaccine – A second dose of vaccine or documentation of disease will be required

For 7th graders or 12-year-olds in 2015-2016:
  • Tdap vaccine – A booster will be required
  • Meningococcal vaccine – 1 dose of vaccine required  entering 7th grade or by 12 years of age (whichever comes first)

Please refer to the accompanying table for a more detailed schedule of North Carolina Required Immunizations for Children effective July 1, 2015.
