2015 Drum Fest

posted May 14, 2015, 11:06 AM by Alexis Allen
Western Carolina University Pride of the Mountains’ percussion staff joined drumlines from Cleveland County’s four traditional high schools - Crest, Burns, Shelby and Kings Mountain - for a daylong, two part event. This educational experience was led by WCU’s Matt Henley, Assistant Director of Athletic Bands and his team of students and hosted at Shelby High School.

The first half of the day consisted of a clinic where the percussion staff worked with the students on a variety of warm-ups and percussion pieces written by Mr. Henley.

Following the clinic, the students performed on stage in Malcolm Brown Auditorium presenting the 2015 Drum Fest Showcase. The showcase featured each drumline individually and collectively.

Thanks to Western Carolina University’s Matt Henley and his teaching staff for helping grow the drummers of Cleveland County Schools. Event sponsors Vic Firth, Zildjian, RemoYamaha and Sabian graciously donated countless educational materials, key chains, t-shirts and door prizes.
