Cleveland Elementary Schools’ 10th Annual Fun Run was recently held on Saturday, May 2nd. This year, 1,013 students participated in the races at Shelby High School where their family, schools staff and other supporters were there to cheer them on.

Students ran in both a half-mile and two-mile competitions sponsored by local elementary schools and the Cleveland County YMCA. Boy and girl winners were named from each grade in both events.

First-place overall winners in the two-mile run were fifth-grader Jakeem Amuda of Shelby Intermediate and fifth-grader Marlee Arnold of Kings Mountain Intermediate who posted the two best times for the event in their divisions – 12:33 and 13:00 – respectively. First-place overall winners in the half-mile run were first-grader Brock Melton of Springmore Elementary and first-grader Re’onnia Thompson of Jefferson Elementary.

This event was coordinated by Brian Bettis of Springmore Elementary and Tripp Roark of Jefferson Elementary schools.
CCS Child Nutrition Services, Chic-fil-A of Shelby and the Nike Outlet of Gaffney provided food and prizes for the event, and sent volunteers.
