The Cleveland County JobReady Partnership is an integral part of the Career-Technical Education. The partnership sponsors unique projects aimed at preparing the future workforce. A teacher academy provides the opportunity for teachers to work in industry for two weeks in the summer. Technology for Tomorrow is a class taught by industry partners featuring tours of their facilities and real life problem solving. A countywide career fair is provided for all 8th grade students. "Choices" is taught in every ELP class by industry partners. Work-based Learning Activities are offered through many avenues. The schools sponsor a "Ground Hog Shadowing Day" for ninth graders. They have internships for prospective teachers in collaboration with the local elementary schools. Allied Health Science, Early Childhood, and Automotive Technology also offer opportunities for students to intern in the community. Allied Health Science and Automotive Technology offer nationally recognized credentials to students who complete the requirements. The Workforce Investment Act (WIA) provides opportunities for eligible students. The in-school program is designed to serve students who are between 14-18 years old. The students are often at-risk. Services are specially designed for each student. Summer work experience is often a component. The out-of-school program is FOCUS. This program targets high school drop-outs. They receive assistance developing a plan that will lead them toward success. Several programs offer state and/or national skill standard credentials. The Health Occupations program graduates are Certified Nursing Assistants. The automotive technology program is NATEF certified. Early Childhood Education provides a state credential. |
