CCS Work History

I started working in Cleveland County Schools as a teacher assistant at the former Elizabeth Elementary for 2 years. I met great educators there that encouraged me to add on my teaching certificate. The teachers at Elizabeth had a positive impact on my teaching career. I then was placed at North Elementary School for my student teaching experience in second grade. I have been teaching kindergarten at North for a while now and have been working for Cleveland County Schools for 20 years.

Education

I received a Child Development and Family Relations degree from UNC- Greensboro and a teaching certificate in Elementary Education from Belmont Abbey College. I later received a Master’s of Elementary Education from Appalachian State University and have earned a National Board Certification.

Family
I have been married to my soul mate and biggest cheerleader, Bruce for 21 years. He is a graduate of Crest High School. Bruce is employed at Cleveland Community College as Dean of Engineering. We have 2 wonderful children, Cameron and Carmyn. Cameron is a senior at KMHS and Carmyn is in the 8th grade at Kings Mountain Middle.

What do you like best about your school/work location?
I am proud to be a North School Tiger! I am so blessed to be given the opportunity to work with an amazing, awesome, and gifted staff that enjoys teaching students and helping them succeed. We are a close-knit family, and we always take care of our students first as well as each other. Everybody at our school is all about teamwork and collaborating with each other. Our staff also has a strong work ethic and great customer service. North School is a great place to grow and learn!

If you could give students one piece of advice, what would it be and why?
Stay positive in life. Be kind and share your smile with others. "Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud." This is advice my mother has given me as well as a quote from the great late Maya Angelou; two wise role models.

Why is Cleveland County Schools special to you?

Cleveland County Schools is very special to me because my husband is a product of Cleveland County Schools and our children are currently being educated here as well. Our school district has high expectations for our students and staff. We believe ALL students can learn and be successful.
