SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PLAN/REPORT CARD

Each year our School Improvement Team writes or amends its plan for total school improvement. This team is made up of staff members and parents, who are voted upon by PTO.

The School Improvement Plan was approved by the Cleveland County Board of Education in November. If you are interested in reviewing our plan at any time, please come by the school office. The plan is available through a link on the principal’s webpage under documents.

A copy of our school’s state report card is also available in the school office and on the webpage.

News

If you cannot attend PTO meetings and would like updates to be sent to you, email crherndon@carolina.rr.com to join the PTO email list.  You can also make sure you’re informed by going to www.groverpto.org for PTO updates. We would love for you to go to www.facebook.com and join the Grover Elementary Group. Type in the school’s name in the search field on the top right of the page to go to our group.

 Technology Purchase!

Thanks to your hard work selling cookie dough and coffee, we are preparing to purchase $7,000 worth of technology for our school.  We received 40% of the total sales from the fundraiser and combined some additional funds to add up to this huge total. We will be purchasing laptops, LCD projectors, and Digital Document cameras.  We will be showcasing the school’s technology at the February  4th Technology Night.  Save the Date!

We are still are in search for a VP. No experience necessary! If you are willing to help lead a group of supportive parents, then the job is yours! Contact Christie Herndon crherndon@carolina.rr.com.

BOXTOPS AND LABELS

General Mills Boxtops, Campbell Soup labels, and Tyson labels (new) are easy ways for everyone to contribute to our school’s success. All one has to do is cut out the labels and attach them to forms which are sent home with students. When forms are complete, return them to your child’s teacher. Students receive prizes from PTO for completed sheets. We earn $0.10 per boxtop, 1 & 5 points for Campbell Soup labels, and $0.24 per Tyson label. Wow! Thank you for your support with these projects!

GROVER’S HERO AWARD

Marian Bradshaw, a third grade student in Mrs. Saldo’s room, was recognized as Grover’s Hero Award winner recently. Marian was born with a genetic heart defect that required her to have three open heart surgeries to reconstruct her heart. Marian is now able to lead a normal, healthy life. She is a hard working student who gives her best every day! We are proud of Marian and think she represents Grover in a great way!

INCLEMENT WEATHER

Just wanted to remind you again that Grover is in the Cleveland County Kings Mountain Zone. When we have inclement weather and only sections of the county are affected, listen for Kings Mountain Zone for delays and closings. You should have already received and returned a letter asking about how your child should travel to your home on days such as this. Please let us know throughout the year if your plans change.

FAMILY READING TIMES

Family Reading Times will be held throughout the school year on Thursday afternoons from 3:00-5:00. During this time, the Media Center is open for students and family members to come and read books and take Accelerated Reader tests. The tentative dates for the remainder of the year are: October 15, November 12, December 3, January 7 & 21, February 11 & 25, March 4 & 25, April 15 & 29 and May 13. Hope to see you on these dates! Come on out and read!

School Attendance

Student attendance is directly related to student learning! Please make sure that your child attends school daily unless he/she is sick. If your child has appointments during the day, bring him/her to school for whatever part of the day they can attend. A note explaining the absence should be sent to school within two school days of the child’s return to school. When a child accumulates 10 absences, a doctor’s note is required. For more details about the attendance policies please review pp. 18-21 in the Cleveland County Student Code of Conduct.  Please feel free to call the school if you have questions concerning this policy.
